Yoonji Choi
Yoonji Choi was born in Seoul, Korea and is currently based in Baltimore, Maryland, receiving a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. Choi’s main works are a series of mountain landscapes using Korean traditional fabrics. The artist’s works investigate an imaginary landscape, which represents her ideal space and mental state. For Yoonji, tranquility and serenity are an important element of her work. The silk fabric represents her Korean background and the act of sewing is part of her work that corresponds with the idea of emptiness. Choi is expanding her landscape work from the fiber patchwork to a series of abstract paintings that incorporate silk fabrics.
